Gozo

Legend says that Ulysses tarried with the goddess Calypso on Gozo, hence it’s original name of Calypso’s Isle. And no wonder he didn’t want to leave – her cave overlooks an enchanted lagoon of gin-clear water surrounded by tall cliffs called the Inland Sea. Look out to the blue Mediterranean through the Azure Window, a soaring arch of rock spanning sky and sea, carved by eons of wind and water.

Valletta

The Maltese archipelago consists of 3 islands lying in the middle of the Mediterranean, 57 miles south of Sicily. Malta, the largest and is indented by many bays and harbors and is essentially flat. The islands' sandstone formation furnishes the gold-colored building material common to the archipelago. Gozo is greener and hillier than Malta, and its coast has high rugged cliffs. Malta has an excellent climate, although temperatures can rise to 86°F in midsummer. Malta isn't just old, it's mythical with its narrow cobblestone streets, crowded with Norman cathedrals and baroque palaces. The countryside is littered with the oldest known human structures in the world. Ever since Calypso enchanted Ulysses, Malta has been weaving a spell over travellers. And the Maltese spend much of the year throwing confetti while carrying statues of their patron saints through the streets and drinking toasts to the Knights of St John.
