Port Stanley
If you are looking for a little isolated peace and tranquillity, the Falklands are about as distant as you can get. The treeless, rolling moorlands are inhabited by only about 2,500 people -- virtually all of British origin -- and a great deal of wildlife. The only conflicts you'll find in the Falklands these days are between penguins fighting over nesting space.
West Point
With a more rugged lifestyle than the military school of the same name, this small British island in the South Atlantic has a stark beauty. Large clumps of tussock grass provide a sheltering habitat for macaroni, rockhopper and Magellanic penguins, as well as a large albatross colony.
